-- A Brush with Penny --
From the time Penny O'Brien MBE was a small child, she has always drawn and painted. Coming from an artistic family, when she started school she really thought everyone could draw and paint! Penny studied art for 5 years at Southend Municipal Art College.

Penny has also taught the over sixties at the WRVS Centre in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex on a 12 weeks course. Penny also draws cartoons for the
WRVS magazine with 10,000 readers and has done for over 10 years and still does.
As well as doing portraits, she also enjoys painting ships and the sea, and aeroplanes, in fact anything!
Personalised cartoons are another love. All she requires are a few details from people, their likes and dislikes etc and then she will draw them a funny cartoon. These are very popular and make unusual personalised presents. Penny's cartoons have featured in the Wimbledon Over Forties Magazine, and currently she is drawing cartoons for the WRVS Action Magazine. Follow this link to see some of Penny's 'Customer Comments'.
Two years ago Penny was commissioned to draw 100 cartoons for the The WRVS Cook Book. Each recipe had it's own cartoon which was great fun!
Penny's painting of the Queen Mother was from a small black and white photograph, and is now with HRH Prince Charles. Please see the 'Gallery' for images and descriptions of Penny's paintings.
"I call art, my gift to share." Penny says.
"Now I have finished doing voluntary work and have more time for myself I am really concentrating on my art."
And Penny goes on to say,
"Being an older lady, I am showing others of mature years that If you want to really do something, the world is still your oyster".
